Visit to Filgrave and Tyringham Parish Church of St. Peter

A small group of not very good photos recording Murray's visit to Filgrave and Tyringham Church. Murray was not looking for anything particular, just going to see the village for the first time.

Having entered the Churchyard, on the right of the path towards the Church and on the edge of some unkempt scrub, Murray found the gravestone of James and Ann Pakes. The third from the left in the picture opposite. At some future visit Murray plans to go equipped with water and a soft brush.

The inscription read something like "Ann Pakes Died 3 May 1882 Aged 54 years - James Pakes Died October 22 1883 Aged 52 years.

Murray's unexpected second coup was finding the grave of a Joseph Pakes Wilson, who died on 5 September 1907 aged either 31 or 81 (the grave, extreme left on the picture opposite, is rather more exposed and more severely weathered).

It would be very interesting to find out a little more of Joseph's history and how he became associated with Pakes, although not as a surname.
